Greetings Brothers and Happy Easter
This year we celebrate our Savior’s
resurrection on Easter Sunday the April 12th. Let us all remember that; “Jesus was put to
death for our trespasses and raised for our justification” Romans 4:25.
On March 7th we lost an important Brother Knight to our Council. Brother Vincent O’Shea was Father Bonner’s Charter Grand Knight when it was formed in 1980. Brother Vince held several positions including State Program Director as well as State Advocate, but the event that I will always remember him for will be the Walk Run and Roll for Spinal Cord Society. Vince will be deeply missed within Our Council. Let us all remember that “Charity Begins at Home” and offer our assistance to Joan and Brother Vince’s family in their time of sorrow.
Welcome Brother Sajeev Andrews who became a new Knight on March 25th, when our Council held a 1st Degree in the Parish hall. Our Worthy State Deputy Wally will be bringing Sajeev to our next Council meeting, let us all introduce ourselves and show him our support. Our Council still requires new members to meet our Council goal, I encourage you to ask a Practical Catholic Gentleman to join our great order.
Congratulations to Bro. Paolo Festa-Bianchet and Bro. Vaughan Achebe who received the Honours of the 2nd & 3rd Degree on March 14th. For those Brother Knights who have not received the honours of the 2nd & 3rd Degree, there will be another opportunity on Saturday May the 7th at St. Joe’s High school. For more information or to register contact Bro. Paolo (780-433-7282 or Paolo.Festa-Bianchet@doccio.com.)
Congratulations to the State Curling Committee on a job well done. The Bonspiel that we hosted at the Saville Sports Centre on the weekend of March 14th was a hugh success! The overall consensus was that our Council provided an excellent State event. Thank you to the Volunteers and the Three Father Bonner Teams that participated.
On April 10th the 29th Annual “Outdoor Way of the Cross” will take place on Good Friday April 10th from 10:00am to noon. The walk will start and finish at the Boyle Street Community League Hall (9515-104 Ave.) For more information contact Linda at 780-466-6327.
On Thursday May 7th the 2nd Annual March for Life will take place in our City. The day will start off with a Pro-Life mass at 10:30am with Archbishop Richard Smith and other Alberta Bishops celebrating the mass at St. Joseph’s Basilica. The rally will start at 1:00pm with the march commencing at 1:30 from the Legislature through downtown returning back to the Legislature for some speeches. We as Knights and Catholic Gentlemen need to show our support and “Defend Life.” For more information contact Bro. Dave Wehage (780-463-9085 or email@example.com,) or Bro. Hudson Byblow (780-760-5201 or firstname.lastname@example.org.)
It is that time of year again when the Council elections will be taking place. The nominating committee is required to put forth the names of Brother Knights that want to assume one of the positions. The election will be held on the June Council meeting. If you are interested in letting your name stand contact one of the executive, before the May meeting.
