Dear Brother Knights,
A month ago I was welcoming you back from summer and now we
are preparing our gardens for winter. As the days draw shorter and the
temperature drops we prepare to give thanks. Thanksgiving is a time for
celebrating family, faith and freedom. We, Knights of Columbus, need to shine
as examples of thanksgiving. Take the
time to draw your family close, share with them your faith, and pray for those
who do not enjoy our freedoms. Additionally our name sake Christopher Columbus discovered
America on October 12, 1492, he is a fitting symbol of a Catholic immigrants'
right to citizenship, a struggle Father McGivney founded our order on.
Bro. Warren Becker and family, Bro. Arnold Lorenz and
family, and Bro. Real Demers and family have affirmed the values of Thanksgiving
by donating their time to provide five families with the makings of a
thanksgiving meal. These new Canadians were exposed to the charity of these
brother Knights and their families at a time when they needed it the most. I
would like to thank these brothers and their families for making a difference.
The Council Membership Director Bro. Paolo Festa-Bianchet and his team of volunteers
are planning a membership blitz in the parish the weekend of October 17. Please
support their effort by encouraging a Catholic gentleman that you know to join
our order. We would like to have new members ready to enjoy the major degree
planned for November 7. You can also help by donating your time before and/or
after one of the weekend mass times.
Speaking of the November 7 major degree, I encourage all
brother Knights that have not enjoyed the benefit of the major degree to take
this opportunity to do so. If you have and questions or concerns about the
major degree please contact me at you convenience.
I look forward to seeing you at the October
general meeting on Tuesday the 13th at 7:30 pm.
God Bless
Steve Hughes, Grand Knight
